Not long ago, I always had this plan of visiting few of the beaches here in the Philippines, particularly those in Mindanao. When my aunt informed me that my the family reunion will be in WaterGran Resort, I immediately asked her where it was and what are the facilities?

“They got an airconditioned room just for 1,000.00 per night!” She said with excitement.

Cool! And I jotted it down on my carry-along notebook. Months had passed and everytime I had the chance to do internet, I make it a point to carefully look for any…as in ANY reviews or entries of this resort. Well, I just couldn’t find any that show pictures of the facilities. Except for news entries on the blogs of General Joana and snippets at GenSan Portal to mention a few.

My dad, mom, and my sis flew in to Davao from Manila and few days after we were on our way to GenSan, my birthplace! Dad drove my bro-in-law’s Mitsubishi Delica and arrived earlier than expected at my lola’s house in Mansanitas Street. Few of dad’s brothers with their families were already there and within few minutes we started our drive to WaterGran Resort in Bawing passing through Silway-Makar-Calumpang plying the GenSan-Maasin road.

Night was just settling in when we arrived at the receiving area of the resort. Again, two of dad’s siblings were already there waiting for everyone to arrive! Few minutes after, we found ourselves inside the resort’s premises. In a snap, I couldn’t find my kids who were busy roaming around with their cousins.

Staff were great in receiving us. The only thing that made me a bit mad was the way the check-in/check-out time is observed. If you enter the premises and checked in one of their rooms at 6 in the evening, you shall checkout at 6 the following morning, leaving you only 12 hours of stay. Then, if you extend to like staying inside the resort, you will be charged again of the entrance fee of 85 pesos per pax. You see, I have been to few hotels and Inns in the countries that I had the opportunity to visit and I was thinking this resort would be the same with those from other places. As my little girl would put it, “papa, why is the word Gran in WaterGran lacks letter D? It should be spelled G-R-A-N-D, right?”

Well, that’s the thing! It was supposed to be a GRAND visit… only, it lacks one letter to make it a perfect review!

My sis, Ivy, thought that it would be a good idea to spend Christmas in Samal so she booked us at Ilihan Beach Resort – a family-owned resort at northwest of the Island Garden City of Samal!

The kids went ahead with dad, who drove our dark green ’95 Mitsubishi SuperSaloon from our place to my sis’s place in Davao City.

My wife, Amy, and I had to follow them three days after. We left my Ivy’s place around 9:30 in the morning and waited our cue at the Wharf for Babak, Samal. We navigated the limestoned paved road from Babak to Camudmud without a hassle. The place was indeed a haven! We immediately settled in a large place that costs us 7500.00! Not a bad price for the three of us sibblings who chipped in the amount!

The place was indeed accommodating! The only thing that mattered during our stay was the aircon at our hut. It wasn’t working! We thought there would be some discount…to no avail!

Well, that didn’t dampenour spirits…well, it was Christmas Day, y’know! We were there not for the beach but for the family who flew in from Manila to join for Christmas!

Beach front was very nice! However, you need to wear beach sandals if you really wanted to take a dip!

Midday in Kapatagan

It was a short-noticed invitation. Kapatagan is one of the places I look forward to visit not expecting that it was to happen within the next few minutes after my Office Administration class. The group of Dr. Ann Okan, sir Joel Escobidal, and sir Irvin Mirabueno waited few steps away from the door of my office waiting for my exit from the class.

Earlier, sir Joel mentioned that they are heading to Kapatagan at 7:30 to scout for a place for the Sabbath School coordinators’ one-day retreat. I confessed my willingness to come along but due to classes at 9:00, I told him that they should be better off without me. That was around 8:00.

However, just when I thought that the group already left, there was sir Irvin, standing at the class room door and motioning that they were waiting for me. I told him that if they can wait for the next 10 minutes, I will go, if not, I will do it next time.

Well, more minutes later, I found myself tagged along with group on board sir Irvin’s Mitsubishi Estrada that tried to maneuver the bumpy-smooth-bumpy narrow and winding road to, what is dubbed as, the summer capital of Davao!

First destination– Mt. Apo Highland Resort. The place is still undergoing major development. However, the place is so far, the best place to be!

Next stop– Camp@Tagan. “Davao’s newest Eco-Adventure Haven,” still on its developing stage, and is still trying to live up on its marketing slogan.

Last stop was Agong House which showcased the works of Kublai Millan.

Alas, it was time to come home! But eager to go back for Sabros and more!

Samal Overnight

Needless to say, it’s all about our recent overnight trip to Samal with my my family, my sister, Ivy and her family and Iris, who flew in from Manila for the “long weekend.”

We went beach hopping before we settled at Punta del Sol. We rented a small room and pitched a family just next to the rented open cottage. The kids flocked to the room we rented….mainly because it was air-conditioned. Good thing, too, because the rain poured heavily that night.

The next morning we visited Hagimit Falls. It was a pretty sight but the water wasn’t that pretty that morning due to the rain that poured that night.

Well, it was  a great bonding for all of us. We miss our folks, though, dad and mom, who kept us company through the phone…checking us out every now and then.

Come December…looking forward to it!

“Let’s bring the hanging bottle and let’s go home, papa rhoen!”

It pains me to see her down with bronco-pneumonia. I may not be able to sleep well tonight thinking that my baby is in the hospital with a tube attached on her right hand. I am comforted, though, that mama Amy is with her. However, I am more assured of the promise that, “whatever we ask in His name, He will answer!” I trust Him. I never doubted. He will deliver my baby from this illness and will be back home the soonest possible time.

Meantime, I need to go and take care of kuya EJ and ate Ym!

God is always great! In fact, He’s cool!

I’m sad today. My baby’s at Digos Doctors’ Hospital with Broncho-Pneumonia. I don’t know, but I do things abnormally when one my family members is down due to this unwanted circumstances. Anyhow, God is always in control! I still want to praise Him amidst all these illnesses. It makes me hold tighter to His hand! He is able!

Is it enough to say thank you to our employees?

Busy! Busy! My boss asked me to answer few questions today that are needed for the AdCom meeting tonight. Well, I had it done in three hours! (Imagine! three hours! whew!) Well, I am still NOT complaining. Y’know why? Because my boss didn’t even complain when she has to answer a whole lot of questions! Now, compare that to my share of questions! I had to asked my class to go on library-mode so I will be able to work on the questions that are needed be answered. In the afternoon, she SMSed me again and requested me to work on the Service Award System for our institution. Bingo! Well, I hope it passes thru the AdCom without a hitch! By the way, this Service Award System that we are developing is given to recognize the dedication and loyalty of our faculty and staff.

Awards of:
Appreciation (5 years)
Recognition (10 years)
Service (15 years)
Loyalty (20 years)
Merit (25 years)
Distinction (30 years)
Excellence (35 years)

Plus two other special awards, namely:
Outstanding Achievement Award is given to any faculty and staff who achieve a different level of education, and, Excellent Service Award is given to any employee who retires from active service, or moves to new work assignment, or ceases to work for the institution.

I don’t know but I feel as if we sometimes take for granted the efforts of our employees, our colleagues. This system may be small as it may seem but I so think, too, that this may not be enough to even say “thank you” to the people who are in the front of the battlefield of knowledge transfer.

Which should come first? The things your boss wants to be done or the requirements that are ought to be done?

Whew! When I reached home, my baby was already sleeping…left home today everybody was still sleeping!

I’m not complaining, huh! Just want to tell the world that I love what I am doing now! This is what I am prepared for!

After this busyness, I think I ought to have a wonderful time with my family!

God is always good! It’s only some of the people around who aren’t! Kuha mo?
